For most people, valerian's benefit does not come from its aroma, which has been described as resembling that of 'dirty socks.' It has a long tradition, however, both as an herb and as an oil of overcoming insomnia and encouraging sleep. Valerian's aroma can be masked somewhat with lavender.

Valerian has been traditionally used to:
